The Tracy Anderson Method

Published by wambalus at 9:10 am under Workouts Edit This

Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna have both received a lot of press attention over the past year for their rock-hard bodies and dedication to health and fitness.  Both celebrities train with Tracy Anderson, a wee pocket-rocket who advocates doing different activities, many of which are based on dance movements which target small groups of muscles, in order to keep the body guessing. Madonna has credited her as having a way of making your body as tiny as it can be.

Tracy’s methods have made their way into blogworld, with many either jumping on the bandwagon or roundly dismissing her methods as fad.  And let’s face it, Madonna is in terrific shape but is this our new epitome of fitness and health?  *shudder*madonna1.jpg

Looking on the Tracy Anderson website there is a picture of Tracy and Gwyneth hugging and smiling for the cameras, a link to the women’s fashion magazines which have featured Tracy, and a link to buy her DVDs.  This sets up Tracy’s method as less about health and fitness and more about fashion - fashions in exercise, fashions in body type, and fashions in celebrity idols.

“If you want to fight age and skin elasticity issues and problem areas, you have to design your muscular structure to help you accomplish that” Tracy says on her website.  So we are being sold not just an exercise routine, but a veritable fountain of youth that we can achieve at home.  Not only a perky bottom but youthful, elastic skin.  Sound too good to be true?  It probably is.

Has anyone personally visited any of Tracy’s studios, or purchased the DVDs? I’d love to have your opinion.
